Q: Discount airfare?
I'm trying to fly a friend from Argentina (Buenos Aires) to DC in Sept or Oct but the airfare is 800-1500 dollars. Where can I get discount coupons for airfare? I've been all over the internet and can't find fares cheaper than that. Any ideas to get my friend here on the cheap.
A: You should have your friend check airfares in Argentina, they may be cheaper to purchase there, I live in Asia, and flights originating from here to the US are significantly cheaper than flights that originate in the US that fly to here. I don't know if that's the case in Argentina, but it may be worth looking into. Otherwise $800 doesn't seem too bad for a flight of that distance these days, it seems like airfares are way up this year.

Orbitz, expedia, priceline, and travelocity don't list southwest airlines. I am trying to find the cheapest flight from Baltimore to Reno. It doesn't havet o be southwest, but they allow 2 free checked bags. What are other discount airfare sites?

A: A website that I find very useful is www.itasoftware.com. Click on search air fares and then log in as a guest. It is not a site to book flights, but is searches multiple airlines at once. It will let you know which airlines have the lowest fares. If you see something you are interested in, write down the flight details and you can book it direclty through the specific airline.

I have searched the Internet high and low. Airfare from Chicago to Tampa should not be hard to find at a discounted rate. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to cheat the system. A: My favorite site is Kayak.com. It's not a travel site per se, but it compiles the fares from all the other travel sites (Orbitz, Travelocity, Cheaptickets, etc.) as well as the airlines' sites themselves. Check it out.

A: Yes. (Of course, your idea of a lot and the airlines' idea of a lot may not be the same.) In fact, you don't even have to travel together, just be going to the same place (not necessarily FROM the same place) at about the same time. All major airlines have group sales desks, and just about any large convention or professional/academic conference has this arranged.

A: I don't think you'll be able to get a group discount for 7 adults. Usually, they begin to discount for parties of 15+ people.

A: It is cheaper in this case if you could go from BUF. Check out http://www.megabus.com which goes from Toronto to Buffalo Airport quite cheaply. From BUF, I see seats available for $203 USD with USAir.com on the 28th.
If you go from YYZ, then I see $262 USD on the 28th, with USAir, Continental, and Delta.
I checked the 27th and 28th for you, and also checked from Hamilton (YHM), but the 2 above are cheapest options.

I have been researching the cheapest way to book the flight I need to Chile in November. I found the exact outbound and inbound flights on different websites, as well as the airline's sight, but doing it from an outside company seems cheaper. A: Back in the 70's the FAA de-regulated airfares. This means airlines can change their prices in a heart-beat. The flying public suffers because you have to call all around to different airlines many times to get the best price. When I worked in reservations for TWA we had a yellow, red and green light system. When each color started blinking everyone in the office (about 500+ employees) had to check our computers for the latest change to prices. We would go to lunch sometimes and come back to several price changes. Good-luck and keep calling. And sorry things are such a mess...
P.S. It used to be that travel agents did not charge for their service, because the airlines paid them. Try a few travel agents, and use this line: "Hello, a former TWA International Reservations agent told me to call around to as many travel agents as I could reach, and ask you to help me find the best prices. He also told me to pick the best deal I could find and ask you to notify me of any price changes. Then he said to take you out to dinner because you had worked so hard to help me!" (I know you think I'm joking with you, but I'm not. Being a travel agent is a very demanding job. They appreciate someone who knows how hard they work. >>God knows I speak the truth<<

A: Yes you can have special group deals but the minimum limit is usually 10 passengers if in economy class. 7 if in premium class.
You will have some more benefits such as group check-in (avoiding queues).
