Q: Europe Vacation?
I am thinking about going on Vacation to Europe for about a week or so. I was wondering where is the best place to visit? Italy, France, England...etc. I also would want to get a tour with my trip to visit the best places, or is it just better to walk around myself? Also, does anyone know of good deals with plane, hotel, and possibly tour? Thanks. I know a week is not enough, but wanted to visit atleast one of the nicest, best cities in Europe and esplore there until I get a chance for more time. I have been to ccertain cities already, but just want to explore more. Thanks for the answers so far.

Q: Buying a luxury vehicle while in Europe on vacation. I have heard that you can save alot of money. Anyone?
I am planning on visiting Europe this summer and have had my car for about 10 years now and was wondering if anyone knows about purchasing a vehicle while on vacation in Europe. I had heard that if you put so many miles on the vehicle that it would be considered used? Has anyone experience with this? Thanks so much for your help!! I would be most interested in a BMW 500 or 700 series.

A: You may save money on mainland europe, but forget trying to buy in the UK. Prices here are much higher than elsewhere

Q: The best way to take money from South Africa on vacation to Europe?
My wife and I are leaving for the UK and Europe on vacation at the end of this month. We both have Visa Credit cards, issued by our bank in South Africa. What is the safest and cheapest way of taking spending money on such a vacation? Are the two credit cards sufficient, or do we need traveller's checques or cash?

A: I would take very little cash and no traveler's checks. I travel with my bank card. That way, I get the best exchange rate and pay no transaction fees but what the bank charges for each ATM withdrawal. Also, I can get how much I want when I want, no lines, and I can get the local currency as I move from country to country. I've only had trouble once when I was in Slovenia, but that was about 8 years ago. At that time, my bank card was not a Master Card or a Visa, it was just a card from my bank that was compatible with Cirrus. Even though the ATM indicated that it recognized Cirrus, it wouldn't take my card. However, my sister had a Visa debit card from her bank, and she was able to get money no problem. In that same year I used my card in Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Austria.

Q: What is an average amount that a person spends when they take a Europe vacation?
I'm looking at 10 days in Italy for about $4000 plus whatever I spend on souvenirs and stuff. Is that way too much or about average? I'm not looking for a first class everything vacation, just something average...although I would take the first class if it was cheap enough..lol.

A: This is more than enough! The thing in Italy that will cost the most is getting a good hotel. Keep in mind what most Americans think has a three star hotel is really a one star hotel. The hotel standards are lower. You will not find discounts on designer clothes, or glasses so if you want to buy some of those expect to pay full price. Renting a car does not cost a lot but putting gas in the car is much much higher than in the US. Also Italy has toll roads. Food is cheap and safe to eat all over. The water should be brought from the store depending on the area you visit. In Rome there are public fountains with cool fresh drinking water.

Q: What are some essentials for a europe vacation?
Hello, i'm going to europe for 30 days as part of a high school graduation gift this summer. I am going to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Heidelberg, Lucerne, Milan, Florence, Rome, French Rivera, Barcelona, and Madrid. What do you think I need to be bring? Specifically, how many outfits (regular and dressy) do you think I will need. Note- I plan on doing some wash here and there, so I know I won't need like 40 outfits lol. Thank you for your help! =] Thank you so much for a detailed response. I'm not a "typical" American. Even though I am only 18 I have traveled alot internationally but never to europe. I know alot about european culture largely because I am only 1st generation American and my family is from Italy, Poland, and France. I speak French fluently so I should get around there fine. But thanks again for your responses! =]

A: Italy and France are dressier than the other countries. If you want an idea of everyday Euro fashion, The Sartorialist is a great place to see pictures. You can check the archives for summer months. http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/ The lighter you pack, the easier your trip will be. I recommend not bringing more than a few trousers/jeans and a week's worth of shirts and underclothes. Maybe one jacket if you plan on going out for nice dinners. You'll need comfortable shoes since you'll probably be walking a lot, and cobblestones are uncomfortable if you aren't used to them. Leave most electronics at home. Laptops and ipods are often dual voltage (read on their power converters, if it says 110-240v, it will work in Europe) but you'll need a plug adapter to change plug shape. Anything that's not dual voltage would need a transformer to work, so it's best to not bring it. I recommend having €30-60/day for food, depending on your habits. Really nice places can be much more expensive. And don't forget copies of your passport and travel itinerary, stored in several spots. Other than that, you don't need much. Anything you're missing can be bought here, and you'll be thankful you don't have heavy luggage :)

Q: Can somebody give an idea about Who is the best vacation planner for a specific vacation to Europe?
Hi, My name is Alex. My wife and I just went on our first cruise for either of us and we had a great time. Now we want to plan a more in depth and serious vacation and cruise to Europe, do the whole England, France, Spain, ect. I need to find an agency that can set up plans for tours, flights, tour guides, hotels and the cruise. I know that cruise lines can do that type of thing for you, but I want to find someone that will shop all the cruises plus set up a stint in England for a few days before the cruise actually starts. Is there any advice that someone can give me about the whole Travel Agent thing and the best way to get the most of our vacation? thank you for taking the time to help me with this.

A: Alex, you can do this yourself with proper planning. Our travel discussion group members are great about helping people who have questions about planning thier own trips. The group is free and free of advertising because it's complete moderated. In fact you can't join without giving your first name and location and your reason for joining, which will be forwarded to the group when you are introduced. Q: Do you think Montenegro has the potential to be Europe's next vacation hot spot?
They have beautiful beaches and mountainsides, and the place can look like a paradise. Do you think enough investments could pull through to turn the new republic of Montenegro into Europe's next vacation hot spot?

A: yes i think it has all the strong possibilities of being a hot spot, it is a beautiful place with investments could be much more attractive to world wide travellers. The down side i could nt comment on the scale of investment required, depend also how it would be used with in their goverment

Q: What's the cheapest tour company for booking a vacation to Europe?
I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive vacation package for this summer to Europe. I want something that includes airfare as well. I'm not sure exactly where I want to go, but I'm considering the UK, Ireland, France, and Italy (not all of them together, I know that would get really expensive). I know Contiki is pretty cheap, but I've heard bad things about them through friends. What are some of the cheapest companies to go through?

A: Contiki well like anything you do get what you pay for unfortunately with anything in life. So if you are looking for the least expensive, then that doesn't leave you with well options for finding say one that is more reputable for providing you with a great tour/holiday. The only other suggestion I would say for a company would be Cosmos. Part of Globus/Cosmos. The Cosmos side of it is the lower priced hotels with the package to lower the cost. I would highly suggest going through a professional agent who can answer all your questions and needs. Find yourself a good agent and they can be a real asset. Many will charge a nominal fee. Please though, don't contact an agent to "pick there brain" if you will only to try and book on your own to avoid that nominal fee. If you call someone and you just don't like them as an agent/person, etc. then that is different of course. I sometimes think though there are ones that say agents are obsolete, but yet we constantly still get calls from people who book online and have questions/concerns/needing help/etc. The service fee's are worth it for a knowledgeable agent's expertise and guidance through your entire trip experience. Best of Luck to you and make sure that your passport is good for 6 months beyond your return travel date.

Q: Should I vacation in Europe or Japan?
My boyfriend and I are planning a vacation for the summer. We have a free place to stay in Japan, so we're kind of thinking of going there, but at the same time we're wondering if Europe would be a more interesting place to vacation. If you had to make the choice between these two, which would you choose and why?

A: I think this is very hard to answer as you are comparing a continent with lots of very different countries (Europe) with one country (Japan). Europe has lots to offer from the fjords of western Norway to beautiful cities like Paris, Rome, London, Florence with lots and lots of history. Japan is also a great destination but offers a different vacation...it is nice to see Japan as the country is a strange combination of western and eastern culture. So it is basically up to you guys and what you are looking for. If you are from the US I think it would be best to visit Europe and some of the cities with a long history - and if you go for places like Rome and Paris there are so many things to see and do :-) Regards Gard http://gardkarlsen.com - trip reports and pictures

Q: How do we list and rent our vacation property in Europe?
We have a vacation rental in Europe. We would like to start renting it out when we are not living in the property. What agencies or websites are good for this?

A: Find an agent locally, not sure if you can join RCI timeshare network, but there are timeshare networks out there. Also, think about you want to do short term or long term rental, include furniture. Know about the rental market first before you contact anyone.
