Q: What is the best way to travel from Rome to Venice ?
My wife and I are going to Rome for 10 days. We already booked the hotel in Rome and would like to travel to Venice and spend one night there. Thank you in advance.
A: Hopping on the eurostar (train) from termini to Venice you
would be your best bet! Its four hours long and doesn't cost more the 30 euros. Do not take the night train! I did it the first time and it was horrible. Its the intercity train which has seats in little rooms where people smoke. On my first trip to Italy I did it and with in 4 hours I had a heavy smoker, then a prostitute which got kicked off the train by the police and some religious group, an experience I do not wish on my worst enemy. Its a nice ride and the eurostar is super quick! If you go by plane its a quick trip but then u have to take the water bus which takes an hour to get to st. mark square.
Q: What does wanting to travel to Venice say about someone's personality?
just something i was thinking about.
i travel alot. and i told my boyfriend to pick anywhere he wants to plan a trip to.
and he picked venice.
and i got to thinking, where people want to travel to, says alot about them as a person.
A: He wants to impress you, via romance?
It's a beautiful city? It has alot of history? Don't put too much thought into this, where people choose to travel too doesn't really say alot about them. I mean, as long as he didn't pick someplace horrible....as long as he picked somewhere that both of you would enjoy, and that's beautiful, then you have nothing to worry about.
lol@gay. That's paris silly.
Q: How long will it take to travel from Amsterdam to Venice?
I was wondering if anyone knew how long it would take to travel to Venice or any major cities in Italy? Also what would be the cheapest way to go? Also where would I go to exchange US dollars to get the best exchange rate in Amsterdam? Can anyone give me advice on where to go and check places out in Amsterdam? THanks
A: From Amsterdam to Milan with the train around 15-18 hours. I think thats the cheapest way to go.
If I were to visit Amsterdam I would visit the Anne Frank Museum.
Q: Cheapest way to travel from Venice to Rome?
I have to reach Rome from Venice on 11 July. Me, my wife, two kids of 11 and 9 years old. what is the most economic way to travel.
A: The Ryan Air flight that Tompin mentioned will be more expensive than the train for a family of 4. You'll have buy 4 tickets and pay for any checked baggage, priority boarding, ...
A Eurostar from Venice to Rome will cost you 168.40 euro for the four of you at the standard fare since your children are under 12. However, you can get the family fare for 146.00 euro. You will need proof of the age of the children (passport should do). An even better deal is the Amica fare if there are seats available at this price - it would cost 134.80 euro if all 4 of you can get the fare. There are a limited number of seats available at this rate.
The cheapest way to go by train is to use the regional trains. The 4 of you can go from Venice to Bologna for 24.60 euro. Then take an intercity train from Bologna to Florence 38 euro (30 if you can get Amica tickets). Then a regional train from Florence to Rome for another 46.50. The total cost is 101.10 to 109.10 euro. I do NOT recommend this for a family traveling with baggage - it takes a lot longer, requires two train changes and limits the number of schedule choices a lot. However, it is the cheapest way to go by train.
With a rental car, you don't have to pay per passenger. This is a good site for route planning here and it will give you an estimate of tolls and fuel expenses as well as routes, distances and times. http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/gbr/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm The driving time will be 6 hours or more depending on traffic and weather conditions and how many times you stop. Count on it being somewhat longer. There will be about 28.70 euro in autostrada tolls. Fuel is about 1.50 to 1.60 euro per liter right now. Viamichelin estimated about 53 euro in fuel charges.

Q: What is the best way to travel from Venice to Athens?
I am planning a trip to Europe, primarily Venice, Athens and some of the Greek Islands for about 12 days. I want to know what is the best route to do all of this. Thanks
A: Venice-Athens:fly. I heard there is a new low cost company that does direct flight (Alp-something). Alpi Eagle as Leonarda said. The ferry takes too long and it is a pity to lose at least 2 days from your holidays .
Athens-islands: ferry, especially fast ferries. For islands which are far from Athens, like Rhodes, Kos, Crete, flying is also a good option.
Q: What is the best way to travel from Venice to Aviano, Italy?
I have a trip to Aviano, Italy and its my first time there. The nearest airport is in Venice...where I will arrive, but I dont know how to get to Aviano from there. Please help!
A: Hi, I used to live in Aviano for four years. The best way from the airport is probably the train. U can get a cab ride from the airport to the Marcon train station. About a 15 minute drive. the train will take you to Pordenone or Sacile, whichever you prefer. Both are equal distance to aviano. There is a small train that will take you right to aviano but I think that train only runs once or twice a day, never actually used it to go directly to aviano. To ride the train, they have automatic ticket computers at every station so if you do not want to speak to a teller or only know english this is the best way. It will print your ticket for you. Before you get on the train you will have to validate your ticket by using one of the machines next to the boarding area. Prices are very cheap and the train is very easy to use. You will spend about 10 dollars to get from Marcon to the aviano area. If you were to use a taxi from the airport to aviano it will be very very expensive.
Q: Is Venice, Italy a safe place to travel for a single American female?
I'm interested in going to Venice for a week-long vacation in September or October. I am not fluent in Italian, and am very interested to relax and spend some time in museums and to admire local architecture. Are there certain areas that I should stay away from? Do you have any travel suggestions for me?
A: I went as a teenager about 13 years ago and fell in love with Venice. It's quite small actually and you'll know your way around within a day. The most pervasive crime is getting pick-pocketed, usually by Gypsies. One of the people I was traveling with almost fell victim but his wife saw what was going on (her parents were from Italy and she spent lots of time there) and broke it up.
Use the same common sense you'd use anywhere else. Don't flash your money, keep your money close to you at all times and tucked securely in a separate compartment in your purse, put your purse strap around your body so it can't slide off your shoulder, pay special attention when in crowds.
As for not speaking Italian, don't worry. In the big cities you'll find plenty of people who are happy to speak English for you. In smaller towns you may have to look harder for someone who speaks English, but if you know any Italian, try a little. It's a show of good faith and Italian people will appreciate it and take their time.
You'll love it. Have fun!
P.S. It's mandatory you try the ice cream (gelato). It's heaven.
Q: What is the best/fastest way to travel from Munich to Venice?
We will be traveling from Munich to Venice in Mid July 2007.
A: You should be able to travel by TEE train ( Trans Europe Express ). Will you have purchased a Eurail Pass? If you have then do still reserve seats as you wil be travelling in the peak season.
You can also fly. There are trains and buses that go from the main railway station to the airport in Munich and I believe there is an airport close to Venice. You may have to get a bus or train to get into town.

Q: How long would it take to travel from Venice Marco Polo airport to Venice Treviso airport in Italy?
Either by road or train. Need to be at Treviso airport at 11am on a Saturday morning. Suggestions welcome!
A: It's roughly 30 minutes driving time, but you should allow for traffic - 45 min or more. A cab between the airports will be expensive. http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamichelin/gbr/dyn/controller/Itineraires?strStartCityCountry=612&strStartAddress=marco+polo+airport&strStartMerged=venice&strDestCityCountry=612&strDestAddress=airport&strDestMerged=treviso&choiceType=1&ie=UTF-8&x=0&y=0. This place is quoting 138 GBP between the airports. http://www.holidaytaxis.com/products.php?airportgroupid=10&airportid=142&resortid=422&today=15&tomonth=07&toyear=2008&x=&y=&result=-1&promocode=
The Marco Polo website is here: http://www.veniceairport.it/core/index.jsp;jsessionid=G0BVSOL33E3GTQFIAIBCFEY?_requestid=811342&language=en

(3 euro). From Mestre, you can catch the airport bus to Treviso for 6 euro. schedule: http://www.atvo.it/images_doc/linee/VE-CANOVA_(19.06-31.08.08).pdf

Q: Single Woman (27) Travel Venice or Paris in January?
I am 27 and planning my first European trip by myself, If you had the choice would you go to Venice or Paris. I simply cannot decide. January is the only time I can go.
A: I have been to both and I honestly think Paris would be better. Both are wonderful but I think you would meet more people and make more friends in Paris, as Venice is very touristy (went there last summer). With Venice you would obviously walk over many bridges, and do the Gondola thing, whereas in Paris there´s the Champs Elysees, the Louvre, Montmartre (Artist district), Moulin Rouge, Eiffel Tower and just getting lost is fun. I think for a single girl, go with Paris. When you´re married go to Venice.
Either way, Have Fun!
Q: is it possible to travel around venice through train?
i have a hotel and plan to go to piazza di san marco. is it which station is nearest to the station found in the island?
A: No, as others ave told you the station on the island is Santa Lucia. Venice isn't all that big and you can walk most places. That's a good way to get around because there are a lot of hidden gems of art and architecture that you'll run into. Another alternative is the vaparetto (water bus). You can get single ride tickets (6 euro for 60 min) or day tickets (or longer; 15 euro for a card valid for 24 hours). with the day ticket, the vaparetto essentially becomes a hop-on, hop-of bus and is the best way to get to the outlying islands - Burano and Murano are both interesting. The schedules and rates are at: http://www.actv.it/english/navigazione.php?pagina=tariffe_vaporetto
The water taxis are very expensive.
