Q: We are a young NZ couple wanting to travel through Mexico. Is there a website that we can join to meet others?
We want to start in LA and drive down to Mexico stopping at Vegas on the way. Is there a travel website or something similar where you can meet others who are planning on doing something similar so that you could perhaps convoy together? I hear its way safer to travel Mexico in a group so would love to meet others who are wanting to do this as well. Thanks

A: A good website for info sharing and networking is this one: http://tomzap.com/ They have 'visitor comments' boards which are essentially chat forums for several communities in the states of Oaxaca, Colima, and Jalisco. Many members are ex-pats and snowbirds who live part or full time in México, and they have lots of good insight. Be advised, however, that on some boards there are a few regulars who just b!tch back and forth at each other. These few make it sometimes difficult to wade through their BS to get to the good stuff, but it is usually worth the hassle. Someone on there can surely point you to additional websites for other areas of the coast. I also recommend these two sights for more info you might find useful: http://www.mexonline.com/ http://www.mexperience.com/

Q: Is it worth getting a GPS for travel in Mexico?
Which device is better/has bet maps? We are not very technology savy, and have travelled Mexico lots, but thought it might be handy. We just don't know what to be looking for when buying one or if it's worth it.

A: It really isn't, the people will help you.

Q: How to travel Mexico City > Taxco > Acapulco?
I'm travelling to Mexico in February and have 5 days. I was thinking of going to Taxco and Acapulco, but not sure what's the best/safest/quickest way to do it. Any ideas?

A: Take the bus from the south (Taxquena) bus station to Acapulco, about 4 to 4.5 hours and then take a day trip from Acapulco to Taxco. It is cheap and convenient to go this way. There is no commercial airport in Taxco.

Q: Can I travel to Mexico by land without a passport?
I am planning to travel to Mexico by land this May, however I do not have a passport. Will my state ID and birth certificate be sufficient to enter Mexico and then come to the U.S. by land?

A: No passport needed, your birth certificate and government issued photo ID are sufficient. BUT, be sure the birth certificate is either the original or a certified copy issued by your state of birth. A photocopy will not be accepted. You will need to show these at the border on entering Mexico to get your FMT (tourist visa). Then you w ill need to show them again to get back into the US The US Govt. just announced officially this week that the passport requirement for land entry has been pushed back to July, 2009.

Q: Can I travel in mexico with an american drivers license?
I don't have a passport and I won't be driving. Is it possible to travel inside of mexico with only a drivers license?

A: Looks like some have missed your point. You do NOT need a passport to travel to and from Mexico by LAND. You DO need your photo I.D. AND proof of U.S. citizenship...birth certificate if you do not have a passport. Yes, you may travel within Mexico with just your I.D. You CANNOT enter Mexico and re-enter the U.S. with only your drivers license. See site below for current info.

Q: Should Americans have the rights to travel to Mexico on vacation?
Why do Americans hate Mexicans, yet they travel to Mexico and go on vacation? Should Americans be considered illegally there, therefore be deported and be treated like the Mexicans get treated in America? OK, first of all, I am a U.S. Citizen. I know that a lot of you complain about illegal immigrants taking your jobs, but how was that? How did they take your jobs? Maybe it's because they were never your jobs to begin with. I bet you people who are citizens wouldn't even think about working in the fields in the summer heat. I know I wouldn't! My point is that many immigrants (illegal or not) suffer to get here and Americans don't have to suffer to go to Mexico or any other country. I own a business and I think I wouldn't even have my business if it wasn't for immigrants. My business makes thousands of dollars in taxes each year. I know immigrants have to pay taxes when they get their pay check right?

A: YOU HAVE A VERY GOOD POINT .I WAS BORN IN MEXICO AND CAME TO THIS COUNTRY AND LAST YEAR I BECAME A U.S CITIZEN. THERE IS LOTS OF AMERICANS THAT HATE MEXICANS BECAUSE THEY CONSIDER US CRIMINALS AND THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME JUST LIKE ALL THE AMERICANS ARE NOT .FOR EXAMPLE: 1.) YOU SOUND LIKE A LOVELY AMERICAN 2.)THERE IS A LOT OF IGNORANT PEOPLE THAT JUDGE US WITHOUT KNOWING US .THANK YOU FOR YOU THINKING LIKE THAT

Q: What do I need to have to travel to Mexico?
I'm in California and am planning to travel to the Mexico City area in early January. I am not a U.S. Citizen, but I am a Permanent Resident (green card) and am going to get a passport in the coming weeks. Aside from those however, do I need any other documents? Thanks.

A: As a permanent resident, you must have your passport from your HOME country and your green card to travel outside the U.S. Those are the only documents you will need. See site below and read paragraph on International Travel. Later, if you become an American citizen, you will be able to get an American passport and use that when you travel. U.S. green card holders do not need a visa to enter Mexico. You will get a tourist card on the airplane. You can use the 2nd site to verify this info. Enter your nationality, enter that you are an alien resident of the U.S.A., enter your destination and click for the info.

Q: Is it safe to travel to Mexico this Spring break?
Would it be safe for me to travel to Mexico, specifically Cabo San Lucas, this spring break?

A: Look in the search of Yahoo Answers how many times people ask this question every year, and every year they return completely safe.

Q: Do I need a passport to travel to Mexico by ground?
I've researched online and I read you don't need a passport to travel by ground until January 2008, but one of my friends told me they resently traveled to Mexico by ground and they were asked for their passport. Has anyone traveled out of the country by ground recently?

A: Go the the website below to read for yourself for your own peace of mind. This is the official U. S. government passport website. The regulations say that you do not need a passport for land travel to and from Mexico until Jan. 2008. It does not hurt to have one, but it is not required. Be sure to have a certified copy of your birth certificate and a photo I.D. I am an American living in Mexico and have travelled bck and forth and not been asked to show ANY I.D....but you should be prepared. Also...don't wait any later than October to apply for a passport to be ready for next year.

Q: Can a person with a felony retail theft conviction obtain a passport, specifically to travel to Mexico?
i was convicted of retail theft (misd) in 2000 and retail theft (felony upgraded with prior) in 2003. i am not on probation at this time. my question is, can i obtain a passport and travel to Mexico with a felony retail theft conviction. please, i know that theft is wrong, i've dealt with this part and am ashamed, right now i just want to know if i can travel outside of u.s. the internet info is vague "not all felony's prohibit international travel.." is what it says. thank you!

A: You can get a passport since you have completed your jail time and parole/probation. If you can enter Mexico is up to Mexico and will be determined for each case. You should contact the nearest Mexican consulate or embassy.

Q: Is it safe right now for Americans to travel to Mexico?
My family is planning to go on a 3 day Baja cruise and we have seen warnings about spring break travel to Mexico.

A: Im sure it is. You only hear about the bad things going on there. Your just as likely for the plane to crash on the way there that you would get hurt or killed in mexico. no worries! :)
